Flammable Solids:
Readily flammable solid substances and articles In other words those which can be ignited by flying sparks or through friction
Class 4.2
Substances Liable to Spontaneous Combustion
Class 4.3
Dangerous when Wet

Oxidising Substances
Substances which while not necessarily combustible may cause or contribute to a fire
Class 5.2
Organic Peroxides
Class 6.1
Toxic

We do not transport this class.

PACKAGING
All goods must be:

  • In UN-Approved packaging which is marked with relevant UN number
  • Labelled with one of the labels from Dangerous goods Classes above
  • Upright on Pallets
  • Banded together, if neccessary and secured to the pallet with shrinkwrap or banding
  • If goods are covered by an overwrap i.e. the dangerous goods labels on the package can’t be seen, the appropriate dangerous goods label(s) must be put on the overwrap.
     
     

PAPERWORK

Transport Document

Otherwise known as a Delivery Docket
This needs to contain:

  • UN Number preceded by the letters "UN"
  • Proper Shipping Name
  • Class
  • Packing Group preceded by the letters "PG"
  • Number and size of Packages
  • Weights by UN Number
  • Total Quantity of each item having a UN no.
  • Consignor Name and Address
  • Consignee Name and Address

Instructions in Writing formerly Tremcard

As and from 1st July 2009, ADR introduced a new format of Instructions in Writing. This document covers all dangerous goods classes. The Consignor is no longer obliged to provide the Instructions in Writing but the Carrier (e.g. Johnston Logistics) must carry a copy of the Instruction (in the language that the driver understands) in each vehicle.
Johnston Logistics implemented this significant change on 28th January 2009

Imports / Exports

  • Any hazardous goods being imported or exported must be accompanied by a dangerous goods note (DGN) and the trailer / container must be placarded.
  • Transport Emergency Card (Trem Card) must be in language of country / countries goods are travelling through
